I'm on Gentoo, using the SVN version, so yeah, I guess I was bound to
oversimplify a thing or 10 :)

I would think the dependencies are described in the REQUIREMENTS file?

Also, why not run "autogen"? Does that not run the configure script and
do some other voodoo?
